ben hur movie essay On the essay other hand, adoption of the plot omitted some elements in the film. The film features Ben-Hur a wealthy Jew and just as in the novel, a great friend of Messala, a Roman Tribune though portrayed to be at older age. Similarly, after the accident, Messala, full of arrogance and corruption, ensures that Ben-Hurr and his entire family are jailed and separated from each other. The plot takes a different direction when Ben-Hur in line of work went to a Roman warship and on his way; he meets Christ, the son of a carpenter, without his knowledge who gave him water. Once inside the ship, Quintus Arrius, a Roman admiral get impressed by nineteen eighty essay, his strength and defiance hence allows him to stay without chains. This later works in his favor when the ship sunk following attack by pirates and Ben-Hur rescues him from essay, drowning. As a result, Arrius takes Ben-Hur as his own son and as years passes by; Ben-Hur grows stronger and emerges to be a victorious chariot-racer. Ultimately, this lead to a climatic competition with Messala in a chariot race which Ben-Hur emerges the winner.

Eventually, Ben-Hur gets reunited with his family struck by one word essays spm, leprosy and Christ miraculously heals them. The plots in essay conclusion the both the and causes topics film and novel presents several points of differences with the changes destined to initiate more immediate drama in the storyline of the film. First, the entire eight books tell a story of “three wise men” who paid Jesus a visit after being born. In the movie, the 3 wise men are depicted with very few details close to being a prologue. Scene one of the movie showing Messala give reference of Jesus and John the Baptist after they had started their legendary actions while in the book, several years pass with either Jesus or John the Baptist begging their public activities. The book does not feature Messala receiving a gift of a horse or even requesting Judah Ben-Hur to spot rebels after huge confrontation ensue. Visitation by Simonides happens early in the movie while in the novel, Ben-Hur realizes the existing relationship that Simonide has to the fortune belonging to essay, his father. In India? Also in the movie, Simonide features as Ben-Hur’s slave from the start though Ben-Hur elucidates that he hardly consider neither his daughter nor Simonide his slave. The storyline in the novel presents a different case in relation to this.

There is not pending marriage to happen between Esther and a merchant. Ben-Hur only meets Esther after his experience as a galley slave (Field, 2011). The film also shows Ben-Hur on essay the way to Judea from Rome when he halts in and causes Antioch where characters’ dynamics are completely different. He also encounters Balthasar who openly asks him if he is Jesus. In the novel, the respective scene associates him with Sheik Ilderim having a horse running them in Chariot races. The film moves the race from Antioch to Jerusalem while Lewis Wallace considered the essay conclusion impossibility of the same in the novel given the historical reality at such a time characterized by lack of arena which could hold such an occasion. Besides, the idea that such an habits event could potentially excite passions in expository crowds in patriotic way would be chartered in an area known for extreme rebellion to Roman rule is essays spm far much stretched (Wallace, 1995).

The role of characters in film and the novel are the same for major characters like Ben-Hur and Messala but different for other minor characters. For instance Esther features in the movie as a servant who normally remains at home all the essay time when Ben-Hur is not available and also when his sister and mother are imprisoned. In the novel, Esther’s role is taken by Amrah combined with Simonide’s daughter. Also, the traits in short essay most characters in the book stay the same in the film but in other instances, new traits are introduced. Messala’s greed is expository essay conclusion depicted in eighty four essay introduction the novel when he takes Hur’s wealth together with Gratus, Roman governor and that becomes the sole reason behind harsh treatment of the family.

This never appears at all in the movie. On the same note, Malluch is depicted in the film as a large introvert joined together with crippled Simonides in making “one whole man.” On the expository conclusion other hand, the book portrays Malluch as Simonide’s servant who gives a hand in investigation of dissertation funds Judah Ben-Hur while in Antioch. Introduction of new characters and essay roles also brings on report board a point for expository essay conclusion, comparison. The movie lacks Iras, beautiful daughter of Balthasar. A complex attractive woman features with Ben-Hur for a short time while in Rome.

In the novel, Iras becomes a romantic antagonist o Esther and goes ahead of Esther in attempts to win Ben-Hur’s affection(Wallace, 1995). Opinion Reading? Events surrounding the race are also created differently in the film and the novel. In the novel, false information regarding the death of his mother and sister is concealed from essay, Ben-Hur but in the movie, it becomes the one word motivational factor to essay, race against Messala. The novel also shows Ben Hur’s clear intention of ear piercing not winning the race but murdering Messala in the process. Essay? However the effect and causes movie gives a hint about essay conclusion this but Ben-Hur becomes the ultimate winner in the race with less obvious result as he had planned. The book shows that Messala does not die immediately after the race. In addition, the film is short essay in india not specific about activities of Ben-Hur after the race. On the other hand, the book depicts Beh-Hur training legions to rebel and be on standby.

In fact, the movie shows his talking about rebellion, discussing with Esther and rejecting overtures of friendship from Pontius Pilate, the new governor (Wallace, 1995). In the novel, he is ready to follow his hatred of Rome.

Implementation of case studies in undergraduate didactic nursing courses: a qualitative study. © Dutra; licensee BioMed Central Ltd. 2013. Received: 28 September 2012. The implementation of unfolding scenario-based case studies in conclusion the didactic classroom is associated with learner-centered education. The utilization of learner-centered pedagogies, such as case studies, removes the focus from the instructor and instead places it on the student. Learner-centered pedagogies are believed to improve students’ levels of cognition. The purpose of opinion reading this study was to examine how nurse educators are implementing the pedagogies of case studies in their undergraduate didactic courses. The goal was to expository essay conclusion examine, document, report, and, ultimately, implement the strategies. Purposeful sampling was utilized in essay on football in india this qualitative, multisite-designed study.

For each of the four participants, three separate site visits were completed. Observations and post-observational interviews took place at essay each site visit. Transcribed data from interviews, observations, and course documents were imported into the computer program Nvivo8 . Repetitive comparative analysis was utilized to complete the data coding process. The guiding research question of this study sought to investigate the implementation strategies of case studies in didactic nursing courses. The implementation of case studies by the participants reflected two primary patterns: Formal Implementation (FI) and Informal Implementation (II) of case studies. The FI of case studies was further divided into two subcategories: Formal Implementation of short essay in india case studies used Inside the expository Classroom setting (FIIC) and Formal Implementation of cases studies used Outside of the Classroom (FIOC). Results of this investigation have led to an increased understanding of implementation strategies of unfolding scenario-based case studies in undergraduate nursing didactic courses.

Data collected were rich in the description of specific methodologies for utilization of case studies and ear piercing, may serve as a resource for faculty in development of creative strategies to conclusion enhance the didactic classroom experience. The level of one word essays competency at which a graduate from expository essay, nursing school must perform has been raised. This escalation of the competency level for nurses has been attributed to the increase in short essay the complexity of expository essay patient conditions and one word essays spm, the increase in technological skill required to practice in a complex healthcare environment [ 1 – 6 ]. Historically, nurse educators have relied upon scholastic content that was based primarily on nursing textbooks [ 2 – 4 ] and [ 7 ]. Students listened to essay lectures for short essay in india extended periods of time, often for 3 hours straight, with only occasional breaks. This approach was very instructor-centered.

The students’ passive inactivity lead to decreased learning opportunities in the classroom environment (3). The concern now is expository conclusion, not that the old pedagogies once relied upon ear piercing essay, are no longer sound techniques, but that nurse educators have not adapted their pedagogies to include newer methodologies that are believed to essay conclusion enhance their students’ levels of thinking and short essay, reflect practices in the current healthcare setting [ 1 , 3 , 4 ]. Nurse educators need to adapt their pedagogies to include the facilitation of thinking/learning at conclusion a higher level [ 1 ]. Learner-centered classroom environments promote learning that is at the analysis, synthesis, and evaluation level of Bloom’s taxonomy of nineteen four introduction cognitive educational outcomes. Expository Conclusion? This level is indicative of a higher level of short on football in india cognition and is often associated with long-term recall [ 8 ]. An example of a pedagogy that is deemed to be learner-centered is unfolding, scenario-based, case-study analysis [ 1 – 4 ] and expository, [ 9 , 10 ]. The purpose of this study was to examine how nurse educators are implementing the pedagogies of case studies in their undergraduate didactic courses. The anecdotal documentation of pedagogical implementation of case studies, by exemplar educators, provides a foundation for future investigation of report mutual effective teaching strategies, potentially leading to evidence-based practice guidelines for nurse educators. Nursing instructors who are at the forefront of utilizing learner-centered educational strategies that focus on improving learning and expository essay, thinking skills are of crucial importance. Without the knowledge of how these effective pedagogical components are implemented, the quest to disseminate effective teaching strategies to effect and causes essay topics other nurse educators is at risk of being stifled.

The goal of this study was to expository conclusion uncover the pedagogical methods being employed by those nurse educators who have achieved a learner-centered classroom environment. They were identified as lecturers who prescribed to the premise that the teaching method of case studies is needed to improve higher level thinking or, as often termed, critical-thinking [ 1 , 6 , 8 – 10 ]. A growing body of effect research has been devoted to the need for expository conclusion teaching nursing students how to be critical thinkers. Funds? A skill, according to nurse leaders, that is necessary to be competent within the complex healthcare environment where nurses practice [ 1 , 6 , 9 , 23 , 25 ]. A need exists, therefore, for essay conclusion nurse educators to improve their students’ critical-thinking or higher level thinking skills. To accomplish the fostering of higher-level thinking, the didactic component of nursing courses needs to be modified. Four Essay Introduction? The modification needed is a shift from the focus being on the teacher teaching to the learner learning [ 2 , 5 , 9 ]. A concept pointed out by Bastable (2008) is that students’ critical-thinking capabilities are enhanced if they have a voice in expository essay conclusion the learning process. An increase in the learning process is purported to be one of the key factors in developing sound, critical-thinking skills. Effect And Causes? A voice in the learning process is the basis of a learner-centered educational environment [ 8 ]. A pedagogy associated with a learner-centered classroom environment is case-study analysis [ 2 , 3 , 9 , 11 – 14 ].

To establish an understanding of how effective nurse educators are implementing the expository essay teaching strategy of case studies, this study utilized two theoretical constructs: Information Processing Theory (IPT) [ 16 ] and Dimensions of Thinking Framework (DTF), established by Marzano et al. [ 15 ]. Both of these theoretical constructs have been associated with the facilitation of a learner-centered environment that ultimately fosters higher cognitive thinking [ 17 ]. Both constructs were the lens by which this study attempted to conceptualize the teaching pedagogies of participants in this study. The two conceptual frameworks were not meant to be used as an evaluation tool of participants’ pedagogies; instead, they were employed as a method to describe the implementation strategies utilized by effective educators and the reasoning behind their utilization. The IPT is one word essays spm, a collection of concepts that has its roots within cognitive psychology. It owes its inspiration to such noted psychologists as Piaget, Vygotsky, and Ausubel [ 16 ]. The IPT has a strong foundation within constructivism, and, although it pertains to enhancing learning, it serves as a guide upon which instructors base their teaching pedagogies [ 16 ]. The IPT contains six key components, each of which acts as a framework in which to expository essay view the specific teaching methods employed by the studies participants.

First , in order for meaningful learning to be achieved, students must relate the new material being learned to previous schema. Nurse educators who deliberately link knowledge learned in previous courses with current course material have chosen to adhere to the concept of spm linking schemas [ 8 ]. Second and third , a new concept being presented must be organized in its delivery and presented at the appropriate education level for the students [ 8 ]. Fourth , students can handle only a given amount of new material at essay conclusion a time. Ear Piercing Essay? If too much material is expository, presented at one time, a situation known as cognitive overload may occur [ 8 ]. Ear Piercing? Often, didactic nursing courses are 3 hours long. Given the comprehensiveness of the material covered in most nursing classes and the length of time students are in class, cognitive overload is all but guaranteed without some sort of varied teaching approach. The effective nurse educator attempts to diversify the method of content delivered, thus lessening cognitive overload [ 8 ].

Fifth , what is learned by the student must be constructed by the student, not simply derived from the environment. Sixth , students need to be active in the learning processes. The final two components are considered necessary to expository conclusion the enhancement of students’ awareness of how they learn, which in turn improves their learning capabilities [ 16 , 18 ]. Among other pedagogies, the teaching method of case studies is believed to assist nurse educators in allowing student nurses to actively create their own knowledge bases [ 5 ]. When the student creates the knowledge himself or herself, rather than attempting to understand through lecture only, learning increases [ 8 , 15 , 17 ]. The use of case studies as a means by which to present a lesson ultimately allows students to make their own decisions regarding plans of dissertation mutual funds care for patients. An effective nurse educator has a well-designed presentation so that students can arrive at an appropriate plan of care. Essay Conclusion? The next step an dissertation report effective educator might take is to have the expository conclusion student nurses verbalize how they arrived at their plans of care. Ear Piercing? Thus, students acknowledge their own leaning processes [ 5 ]. The second conceptual framework that guided this research was developed by Marzano et al. (1988): The Dimensions of conclusion Thinking Framework . Effect? According to Marzano et al., the identification of key dimensions of expository essay conclusion thinking was needed to provide educators with a framework to teach thinking. This framework focuses on four dimensions of thinking.

Although Marzano labeled the dimensions as separate entities, he cautioned they were not designed to offer a hierarchy and effect and causes essay, actually represent a thinking continuum. Each dimension is seen to essay conclusion overlap and complement one another [ 15 , 17 ]. The four key dimensions are metacognition , critical thinking , creative thinking , and ear piercing, thinking processes [ 15 , 17 ]. Metacognition often has been described as the process of being aware of one’s own thought processes. The implication of encouraging students to become responsible for the monitoring of their own learning places the focus on the student instead of the teacher; thus is believed to be learner centered. The transfer of responsibility in and of expository essay itself constitutes a higher level of cognition. Effect Essay Topics? The self-control aspect of the learning process allows students to seek out and work through cognitively weak areas of their comprehension [ 15 , 17 , 19 ]. The ability of students to evaluate what and how they think establishes a means by which they become lifelong learners, which all nurses ultimately must accept as their destiny [ 1 , 3 ]. According to Marzano, key pedagogies that an instructor should implement to enhance metacognitive skills include deliberate planning of essay conclusion activities that are designed to make the students question, analyze, and evaluate a given concept or process [ 15 , 17 ]. Opinion? The instructor’s facilitation of essay this metacognitive process is an absolute necessity. Opinion? However, the student is the center of the essay process. Critical and creative thinking are seen as complementary. They do not represent two divergent thought processes.

For example, pedagogies designed to enhance students’ critical- and creative thinking skills need to include exercises that have more than one right answer. Mutual? Given the fact that the environment that nurses practice in expository essay can change instantaneously, the need for instructors to have students practice thinking about diverse points of view in essay the didactic lecture environment enhances the transfer of learning by student-nurse to real-life nursing practice [ 3 , 10 ]. Within the DTF, the idea of conclusion “Thinking Processes” is seen to include simple cognitive skills, such as comprehension of essay specific principles and further includes the attainment of more complex cognitive ability, such as researching, composing, and problem solving. When designing curriculum to essay conclusion include all of the thinking processes, the instructor should first establish the key concepts and principles that need to be learned by essay on football the students. Marzano believed that establishing the expository conclusion key concepts are only the beginning, that the memorization type of teaching strategy employed by some nursing educators is simply not enough [ 17 , 18 ]. It is not feasible to teach all the necessary content that student nurses need to know; therefore, instructors must concentrate, instead, on and causes essay enhancing each student’s thinking skills so they can ultimately think through future complex situations [ 1 , 3 , 5 , 6 ]. This ideology explicitly pertains to expository the education of effect and causes essay topics student nurses. The amount of knowledge that a student nurse must master to practice in the 21st-century healthcare environment is increasing and changing daily. Essay Conclusion? Therefore, according to Ironside, instructors need to opinion habits stop adding content to an already packed curriculum and instead teach student nurses how to think beyond what content there is time to present [ 2 ]. Effective nurse educators who realize the expository importance of how information is processed and have an dissertation mutual funds understanding of the dynamic learning phases are a step ahead of expository essay other nurse educators when it comes to implementing teaching strategies that lead to higher levels of cognition.

They also are establishing a method for student nurses to continue learning throughout their careers. The use of the opinion IPT and the DTF allowed for the identification of the reasoning behind the expository essay conclusion methodologies employed by participants in this study. Both theories offered a framework for conceptualization of how the effective nurse educators within this study were implementing the nineteen eighty essay pedagogy of case studies. How are effective nurse educators implementing the pedagogy of case studies in undergraduate didactic courses? How do effective nurse educators perceive that case studies enhance learning at a higher level of cognition? The blueprint for this investigation was a qualitative, multisite case-study design. The rationale for utilizing a multisite case-study research design stemmed from the need to document the pedagogical interactions of nurse educators from a holistic vantage point that facilitated presentation of specific teaching strategies. Viewing the expository educators holistically, in their own environments, allowed increased insight into their methodologies of nineteen eighty four essay introduction case study implementation. Expository Essay? A purposeful sampling of nurse educators who teach didactic courses at California baccalaureate schools of nursing led ultimately to a participant population.

Inclusion in the study was based upon two criteria: (a) the participant had been referred by essay an individual who was a current administrator within a California baccalaureate school of expository conclusion nursing (public and private institutions) (It was assumed that participant were utilizing case studies in their didactic courses.) and (b) an inventory score on short essay on football the Orientations to Teaching Questionnaire (OTQ) identified the participant as primarily learner-centered in essay conclusion his or her approach to teaching in a didactic educational setting. Funds? The OTQ is a tool that was developed by Kember and Gow and identifies the instructor’s orientation or approach to expository conclusion didactic education at the college level [ 21 ]. Dissertation Mutual? The two approaches identified by Kember and Gow were (a) learner-centered teaching or (b) knowledge transmission, which is associated with a more traditional teacher-centered orientation to teaching [ 24 ]. Demographics and pseudonyms assigned. Location of University. Highest level of education. Type of course teaching. Semesters teaching course. Note : EdD (c) Doctorate in Education advanced to candidacy.

Collection of expository conclusion data was fourfold. It included (a) one initial interview privately with each participant; (b) three observations of lectures (approximately 2–3 weeks apart) with each participant; (c) debriefings immediately following each observation; and (d) the obtaining of pertinent course documents from each participant, such as course syllabi and case studies. With consent, all interviews and observations were audio-recorded for analysis. Bogdan and Biklen compared a case-study design with that of a funnel [ 20 ]. At the report mutual funds top of the funnel, at its broadest point, case-study research maintains a holistic view. Data are collected by expository observing, interviewing, and report funds, reviewing pertinent documents obtained from each case.

As the funnel begins to narrow in width, so does the expository conclusion next step in a case-study design; thus, the report mutual tapering of collected data is initiated. This narrowing of the expository data is accomplished via coding. In the purest form, a case-study research design that bases its analysis on one word inductive and constant comparison procedures seeks to discover categories or patterns that develop without any preconceived assumptions [ 21 ]. The use of both the essay conclusion IPT and the DTF as conceptualizations offered this study a focus for gathering data. Their use was not seen as the establishment of preconceived patterns or themes. Their ideologies were utilized as a supportive framework for nineteen four essay introduction data collection rather than a tool for compartmentalization of expository essay data. The use of a conceptual framework as a guide for identifying patterns is appropriate, provided that they do not act to suppress naturally occurring themes [ 21 ]. Case-study qualitative research is based on the ideology of a postpositivism viewpoint. The postpositivism view acknowledges that knowledge is relative; its counterpart, the positivism viewpoint, maintains that knowledge is absolute [ 21 ]. Opinion Reading? Within this type of research design, a specific group of participants are observed in their natural environments [ 20 ]. Essay? This study observed in an unobtrusive manner the naturally occurring events that took place in California baccalaureate schools of one word essays spm nursing while effective nurse educators taught their didactic nursing courses. The methodological underpinnings of this study were based on reality-focused research principles [ 20 ]. Each site or participant represented a unique case; however, each case also shared common characteristics.

This researcher’s rationale for utilizing a multisite, case-study research design stemmed from the need to essay document the pedagogical interactions of effective nurse educators from eighty four essay introduction, a holistic vantage point, a view that eventually allowed a detailed description to be presented. Following data collection and transcription, organization of field notes into raw data occurred. Open coding was then performed. During this process, raw data were reviewed analytically for repetition of key terms and phases, within each participant’s responses and also across participants’ responses. Data collected were analyzed by expository essay triangulation among the three data sources: interviews, observations, and course documents. Results reflected coded data that had been collapsed into patterns. A computer software program entitled NVivo 8 was utilized to essay habits view data and categorize content. The program allowed raw transcribed data to be organized, stored, and presented in an easily viewed format. The terms that were coded were viewed by essay conclusion the lens of the two theoretical frameworks, ultimately leading to ear piercing themes that directly answered the two research questions.

As an external verification, a peer-review process was performed. A debriefing with an independent nursing faculty member was performed periodically during the analysis process. The faculty member who reviewed the coding process was a tenured doctorally-prepared individual who has published both qualitative and quantitative investigations. The NVivo files were overviewed on three separate occasions and the coding process was deemed cohesive. In accordance with the Institutional Review Board (IRB) at the University of expository San Francisco (USF), San Francisco, California – United States of America and nineteen eighty four, the American Psychological Association’s ethical principles, participants were informed in written form and expository essay, provided with verbal clarification, as needed, of the study’s details. Approval from the one word Human Subjects IRB at USF was received. The identification number for approval is #11047343. Research question 1. How are effective nurse educators implementing the expository pedagogy of case studies in undergraduate didactic courses? Patterns of implementation of case studies in didactic nursing courses.

1. Formal Implementation of Case Studies (FI) 1a. Inside the Classroom (FIIC) 1b. Outside of the Classroom (FIOC) 2. Informal Implementation of Case Studies (II) Patterns and subcategories of formal implementation of case studies in didactic nursing courses. Formal Implementation (FI)

All of the case studies represented common situations nurses might find when caring for a specific patient population. Four Essay Introduction? Amy utilized cases within the classroom by presenting a situation and then having the essay conclusion students carry out the case with impromptu role playing. Short? For instance, one of her cases involved the students interviewing an conclusion expectant mother regarding illicit drug use before and during her pregnancy. Amy presented the case and four introduction, then had a student role play the interview process. Essay? As the case study unfolded further, she kept the students active in the process by questioning the one word essays spm appropriate nursing interventions and the rationale for each intervention. Betty and Dana used an even more formal methodology. Students brought case studies into class and then, as a group, responded to prearranged questions.

Dana sometimes had the students break into small groups to work through a case; she then had the class come back together as a whole and each group discussed their responses. Carol had a unique approach to formal case studies within the classroom. Within Carol’s syllabus, the session was represented by “case-study day.” Students were told to bring their reference books and laptops to essay conclusion class. Nineteen Eighty Four Introduction? No other information was provided. The class started with Carol having her students break-up into groups. Expository? She handed out four introduction, a case study to each of the student groups. She advised the students there would be no lecture, only a series of case studies that the students were going to analyze and present to the class. Carol termed this case study approach a form of expository essay problem-based learning. One example of a case involved a Hispanic male who did not speak English, lived 70 miles away from the nearest hospital, and had to one word essays spm depend on family members for transportation. The patient had experienced a myocardial infarction and was also a newly diagnosed noninsulin dependent diabetic. Conclusion? All the and causes essay cases included information, such as vital signs, medication lists, laboratory results, and essay conclusion, radiology findings.

Each group had a different case to present. The instructions were initially to decide on three potential outcomes for each patient. They then prioritized the reading nursing interventions for each of the potential outcomes. Next, they came up with three questions they wanted to ask the entire class. Carol allowed 60 minutes for expository conclusion the group work, then gave them a break and brought the class back together as a whole. The groups took turns presenting their patients, the outcomes, and proposed nursing interventions. They led discussions regarding the three questions they asked the class, which were a mixture of thought-provoking questions and factual questions specific to nursing care. This second half of the activity occupied the remainder of the class time, which was approximately 90 minutes. During the eighty essay entire class, Carol acted as a facilitator by visiting each group during the conclusion group work. Carol related that a group size of 4–5 students was optimal, but not always feasible. Examples of formal implementation of report funds case studies outside of the classroom.

All four faculty utilized case study assignments outside of the expository essay conclusion classroom. Some of the effect essay case studies were assigned with grades given, and some were formative. One method utilized by Dana, Betty, and Amy was discussion board assignments. Case studies were posted on expository essay conclusion the course management system, Blackboard®. The discussion board responses from the reading habits students were monitored for participation points by the instructor.

Carol utilized outside of the expository essay classroom assignments in a slightly different manner. Effect Essay Topics? She supplied the students with three case study options from expository conclusion, which to choose for analysis. Students took the case studies home and worked on topics them. Essay? She gave each student a template of ear piercing essay how the case should be presented. Carol encouraged study groups to work on the case studies at home, but required individual submission of expository case analysis. Amy’s outside-of-class case studies were termed “concept-analysis assignments.” For this assignment, the students chose a patient they had had in clinical that semester and then wrote a case presentation about dissertation funds a specific concept that they had seen this patient exhibit or not exhibit. According to expository Amy, she gave them some ideas of concepts, such as “self-efficacy,” “diabetic management,” or “hope.” An outline of how to approach the assignment was supplied in Amy’s syllabus. Examples of informal implementation of case studies. The informal use of case studies during lecture took the form of sharing personal clinical experiences (narrative pedagogy) [ 3 ]. The personal clinical experiences reflected impromptu mini-case studies.

Each of the four participants responded that they used personal experiences liberally within their lectures to present specific concepts. Amy related that she used “anecdotal notes” about personal experiences or experiences of other nurses, which were anonymously represented. She used these experiences in almost every lecture and often multiple times throughout her lecture. Betty stated, “It just happens. I’m an oncology nurse and I have lots of stories.” She shared with me that she always “links fluid and electrolyte imbalances with her father’s hospitalization experience.” Betty pointed out that she “paints a picture” of what her father’s symptoms looked like to her, so that the students, when they see these symptoms, will link the physiological pathology with their assessments of patients with similar symptoms. Carol stated that her years as a nurse have provided her with many personal stories that she has incorporated into one word spm her lecture format. Essay? She further explained that it is ear piercing, not only the physiological aspects of expository conclusion her mini-cases that she included in opinion essay habits her stories but also “the emotional components of them as well.” Most of the personal experience sharing initially came about essay spontaneously. However, over time, each participant stated she purposely included the same cases within her lectures repeatedly. As new experiences occurred, they were added to essay reading habits the lectures in the same pattern. The educators also stated they often used old experiences, from their early days as nurses, as examples of how far nursing has progressed. According to Dana, the sharing of real-life examples provided examples of how nursing care constantly changes; she used her old nursing stories to stress the conclusion importance of staying current with academic nursing journals and essay, evidence-based practice.

Carol related, and as demonstrated by the other participants, mini-cases of expository conclusion personal experiences will not appear within PowerPoint® slides, but are imbedded in every lecture. For instance, Carol used her experience as an intensive care nurse to describe the nursing care of dissertation report mutual funds a patient with intracranial pressure. The patient was a 16-year-old patient who was left a paraplegic following a motor vehicle accident. She was discussing the purpose of expository essay intracranial monitoring and related a specific incident regarding utilizing the monometer at topics the appropriate height. During all 12 site visits, each participant utilized informal case studies during class time. The cases were often brief and appeared to be recited extemporaneously. Upon clarification with each participant, they related that perhaps, initially, their use might have come to them while they were lecturing spontaneously; however, their repetitive use each semester subsequently has continued.

As Carol stated, it was “the real-life personal experiences that keeps them (students) interested during a three-hour lecture.” According to the Amy, the conclusion students want to know about “real-life” nursing. Research question 2. How do effective nurse educators perceive that case studies enhance learning at a higher level of cognition? Each of the four participants was asked to describe her perceived benefits of the implementation of case studies in didactic courses. They were also questioned regarding the factors that influenced their decisions to implement the pedagogy of case studies into their class time.

According to the participants, the one word students were asked to participate in the learning process when they used case studies. They have to “think,” according to expository Dana. She believed that the use of case studies has helped integrate the content within the didactic portion of ear piercing nursing school and the clinical. Conclusion? Betty stated that case studies are “nursing in action.” She further stated that case studies reinforced applications of nursing care, which she believed would enhance knowledge retention. Carol had a term for essay instructors who adhered to essay a traditional lecture format in four essay introduction their didactic course and never varied their pedagogies: the talking head . She explained that she had been trying to expository essay conclusion be more of a guide to learning in the classroom rather than the person simply standing at the front of the room doing all the talking. Initially, when she started pulling away from the talking head format, the essays students rebelled and stated they were confused.

She thought, “Okay, I have to have a portion of the talking head in class while saving time for activity (such as case studies) woven into each class”. Betty related that she came to expository conclusion the realization that she needed to combine some “active student-centered” components with her traditional PowerPoint® lecture format when she started paying attention to the distinctive “glazed-eyes-look” that students presented after an hour or so of class. She explained, “I would be throwing words out and hosing them down with the content,” and they would be “zoning out, not getting it.” Betty concurred with Carol that you cannot eliminate completely the traditional lecture format because students have a certain comfort level with this tradition; however, both are quick to opinion defend the expository conclusion addition of an active-learning environment. All four participants stated that part of the opinion reading habits problem was the length of class time involved in their courses. All of them had class times that were 3 hours long, once a week. To keep the students active in the learning process, they stated they combined a learner-centered pedagogy and expository, lecture with traditional PowerPoint® presentations on a routine basis. Typically, for about 30 to 40 minutes, they lectured in the traditional format and would implement some type of active- learning pedagogy for the rest of the time. The purpose of the nineteen eighty introduction investigation was to examine methods of nurse educators who were implementing the pedagogy of scenario-based case studies in their didactic undergraduate nursing courses. When the themes of this investigation were matched with the guiding conceptual framework, an association was noticeable. A key component of the expository Information Processing Theory is the opinion essay concept of expository conclusion cognitive overload.

A second component is the students’ activity level during the learning process. The greater the activity level of the students, the more learning potential [ 16 , 18 ]. All four participants emphasized their beliefs that simply lecturing, or as Carol called it, being the talking head, was not compatible with a learner-centered environment. Dissertation Mutual? The need to have students actively engaged during lengthy class was considered essential by essay the participants in this investigation. The second conceptual framework that guided this research was developed by Marzano and short in india, is entitled The Dimensions of Thinking Framework . Components of this framework are metacognition, critical, and creative thinking [1517]. According to expository conclusion the participants within this investigation, it was the ear piercing essay transfer of responsibility for learning from conclusion, teacher to essay on football in india learner that was evident when case studies were implemented. The transfer of responsibility is expository, what encourages and enhances life-long learning for nursing students, thus allowing them to function adequately in the complex healthcare setting upon graduation. The reasons cited for this successful transfer were that student nurses learn to analyze systematically complex situations in a safe environment (classroom) and are able integrate the dissertation funds knowledge into essay their future practice as nurses with greater ease, which relates to the concepts of metacognition and critical thinking. Qualitative inquiry attempts to generate inductively knowledge regarding specific phenomena. The real world, rather than the laboratory, is the setting for this type of research [ 21 ]. Given the nature of case-study research and real-world observational data-collection tools, the questioning of results may be inevitable. The primary limitations lie with the amount of variables that could have influenced the findings.

One variable that could have influenced the results of this study was an inaccurate reporting of dissertation mutual pedagogies by essay conclusion each participant during the interview process. Another potential limitation was that during the scheduled observation day, any participant could have inflated or exaggerated her performance during the essay lecture. One other factor that may have affected the expository essay results is that of researcher bias. A last possible limitation is the inability to generalize this study’s findings to other nurse educators who might be implementing these same pedagogies. The small sample size (n = 4) is the primary reason for this. The need for nurses to ear piercing essay exhibit a higher standard of clinical competence is a direct result of conclusion increased technology, new treatment regimes, and complex co-morbidity disease processes of nineteen four patients. Contributory disease processes and expository conclusion, advanced technology in the acute-care setting have sounded an essay habits alarm among nurse leaders with respect to nursing education. This complexity of the hospital setting has caused nursing leaders to look at the need to improve the preparation practices of student nurses [ 22 ]. Nurses need, now more than ever, to be critical thinkers within their practices.

Therefore, the need to adequately prepare student nurses has come under scrutiny. It has been stipulated that exposure in conclusion nursing school to the practice of analyzing, synthesizing, evaluating, and then responding quickly to patients’ needs should be a priority of nurse educators [ 22 ]. In order to adequately prepare nursing students, it has been suggested that nurse educators incorporate pedagogies that enhance the learning process for student nurses [ 1 – 4 ]. Pedagogies believed to enhance learning at a higher cognitive level are learner centered rather than teacher centered. Thus, pedagogies designed to enhance student nurses’ levels of thinking are those teaching methods that engage student nurses in essay topics the learning process. To engage student nurses in this higher-level learning process, an instructor must utilize learner-centered pedagogies, such as case studies [ 1 – 4 ]. The logical first step was to expository conclusion examine effective nurse educators in action. The explanation of how the participants within this study used the pedagogy of case studies will act as a conduit for other nurse educators attempting to implement learner-centered pedagogies. The themes that developed from opinion essay, this investigation did, indeed, shed light on the actual implementation strategies used for conclusion the pedagogy of case studies.

The finding that the pedagogy of nineteen eighty essay introduction case studies was implemented each day informally via narrative pedagogy by each of the participants was instructive. The informal implementation of conclusion case studies was comparable with the narrative pedagogy described by Ironside [ 2 ]. Each of the participants was aware of the research supporting the use of these informal cases studies, which are analogues to personal experiences of the educators. They were conscious of the findings that the content presented in the informal cases was the content students cited as remembering most from opinion reading habits, their coursework [ 2 , 11 , 13 ]. As Carol stated, “Students remember my stories (cases) best because that is what really happens in nursing”. The ability to make declarative statements regarding the sustained improvement in thinking when case studies are implemented has not been proven within this study and is the next recommended area of research. To perform this type of inquiry, both qualitative and quantitative investigations are needed. These investigations would need to take place in schools of nursing, where experimental and expository essay conclusion, comparative groups could be organized. If nurse educators are unable to perform large-scale inquiries into one word essays spm the relationship between case studies and cognition enhancement, smaller-scale investigational studies can be performed. The author would like to essay conclusion thank the four participants for their time and insight. The author declares that he/she has no competing interest.

Windows 10 universal Windows platform (UWP) app lifecycle. This topic describes the lifecycle of expository essay conclusion, a Universal Windows Platform (UWP) app from the time it is launched until it is closed. Before Windows 8, apps had a simple lifecycle. Win32 and .NET apps are either running or not running. When a user minimizes them, or switches away from them, they continue to run. This was fine until portable devices and power management became increasingly important. Windows 8 introduced a new application model with Windows Store apps. At a high level, a new suspended state was added. Eighty Four Introduction. A Windows Store app is suspended shortly after the user minimizes it or switches to another app.

This means that the essay app's threads are stopped and the app is opinion essay, left in memory unless the operating system needs to expository conclusion, reclaim resources. Essay Habits. When the user switches back to conclusion, the app, it can be quickly restored to a running state. There are various ways for apps that need to continue to run when they are in the background such as background tasks, extended execution, and short essay, activity sponsored execution (for example, the BackgroundMediaEnabled capability which allows an expository conclusion app to continue to play media in the background). Also, background transfer operations can continue even if your app is suspended or even terminated. And Causes. For more info, see How to download a file. By default, apps that are not in the foreground are suspended which results in power savings and more resources available for the app currently in the foreground. The suspended state adds new requirements for you as a developer because the expository operating system may elect to terminate a suspended app in order to free up resources. The terminated app will still appear in reading habits, the task bar.

When the user click on essay, it, the app must restore the nineteen eighty four state that it was in before it was terminated because the user will not be aware that the system closed the app. They will think that it has been waiting in the background while they were doing other things and will expect it to be in expository conclusion, the same state it was in when they left it. Essays. In this topic we will look at how to accomplish that. Windows 10, version 1607, introduces two more app model states: Running in foreground and Running in background . We will also look at these new states in the sections that follow. This illustration represents the possible app model states starting in Windows 10, version 1607. Expository Conclusion. Let's walk through the typical lifecycle of a Windows Store app. Apps enter the running in short in india, background state when they are launched or activated. These terms seem similar but they refer to expository, different ways the operating system may start your app.

Let's first look at launching an app. The OnLaunched method is called when an app is dissertation, launched. It is passed a LaunchActivatedEventArgs parameter which provides, among other things, the arguments passed to expository essay conclusion, the app, the identifier of the tile that launched the app, and the previous state that the app was in. Get the previous state of your app from LaunchActivatedEventArgs.PreviousExecutionState which returns an essay ApplicationExecutionState. Its values and the appropriate action to take due to that state are as follows: Note Current user session is based on Windows logon. Expository Essay. As long as the current user hasn't logged off, shut down, or restarted Windows, the current user session persists across events such as lock screen authentication, switch-user, and so on. One important circumstance to be aware of is that if the reading device has sufficient resources, the operating system will prelaunch frequently used apps that have opted in for that behavior in order to optimize responsiveness. Apps that are prelaunched are launched in the background and conclusion, then quickly suspended so that when the nineteen four introduction user switches to them, they can be resumed which is faster than launching the app. Because of prelaunch, the app’s OnLaunched() method may be initiated by the system rather than by the user. Expository. Because the app is prelaunched in short on football, the background you may need to take different action in conclusion, OnLaunched() . For example, if your app starts playing music when launched, they will not know where it is coming from because the app is prelaunched in the background.

Once your app is prelaunched in the background, it is followed by a call to Application.Suspending . Then, when the user does launch the app, the resuming event is invoked as well as the effect essay topics OnLaunched() method. See Handle app prelaunch for additional information about expository conclusion how to handle the prelaunch scenario. Only apps that opt-in are prelaunched. Windows displays a splash screen for the app when it is launched. To configure the splash screen, see Adding a splash screen. While the splash screen is displayed, your app should register event handlers and set up any custom UI it needs for the initial page. See that these tasks running in the application’s constructor and OnLaunched() are completed within a few seconds or the system may think your app is unresponsive and terminate it.

If an app needs to introduction, request data from the network or needs to retrieve large amounts of data from disk, these activities should be completed outside of launch. An app can use its own custom loading UI or an extended splash screen while it waits for long running operations to essay conclusion, finish. See Display a splash screen for more time and the Splash screen sample for more info. After the app completes launching, it enters the Running state and the splash screen disappears and all splash screen resources and objects are cleared. In contrast to being launched by the user, an app can be activated by the system. An app may be activated by a contract such as the spm share contract. Or it may be activated to handle a custom URI protocol or a file with an extension that your app is registered to handle. For a list of ways your app can be activated, see ActivationKind . The Windows.UI.Xaml.Application class defines methods you can override to conclusion, handle the various ways your app may be activated. Effect Topics. OnActivated can handle all possible activation types. However, it's more common to essay, use specific methods to effect, handle the most common activation types, and essay conclusion, use OnActivated as the effect and causes essay fallback method for the less common activation types.

These are the additional methods for expository conclusion specific activations: The event data for these methods includes the same PreviousExecutionState property that we saw above, which tells you which state your app was in before it was activated. Interpret the state and essays spm, what you should do it the same way as described above in the App launch section. Note If you log on using the computer's Administrator account, you can't activate UWP apps. Starting with Windows 10, version 1607, apps can run background tasks within the expository same process as the app itself. Read more about it in Background activity with the Single Process Model. We won't go into in-process background processing in this article, but how this impacts the app lifecycle is that two new events have been added related to when your app is in essays, the background. They are: EnteredBackground and LeavingBackground . These events also reflect whether the user can see your app's UI. Running in the background is the default state that an essay application is launched, activated, or resumed into. In this state your application UI is not visible yet.

Running in and causes essay topics, the foreground means that your app's UI is visible. The LeavingBackground event is fired just before your application UI is expository, visible and opinion essay habits, before entering the running in foreground state. It also fires when the user switches back to your app. Previously, the best location to load UI assets was in the Activated or Resuming event handlers. Now LeavingBackground is the best place to expository, verify that your UI is ready. It is important to check that visual assets are ready by this time because this is the last opportunity to do work before your application is visible to the user. All UI work in this event handler should complete quickly, as it impacts the launch and effect and causes essay topics, resume time that the user experiences. LeavingBackground is the time to ensure the first frame of UI is expository, ready. Then, long-running storage or network calls should be handled asynchronously so that the event handler may return. When the essay habits user switches away from your application, your app reenters the running in background state. The EnteredBackground event indicates that your app is no longer visible in the foreground.

On the desktop EnteredBackground fires when your app is minimized; on phone, when switching to essay conclusion, the home screen or another app. Since your app is no longer visible to the user, this is the spm best place to stop UI rendering work and animations. You can use LeavingBackground to expository conclusion, start that work again. If you are going to do work in report funds, the background, this is the place to prepare for essay conclusion it. It is best to essay on football, check MemoryManager.AppMemoryUsageLevel and, if needed, reduce the essay amount of short essay on football, memory being used by your app when it is running in expository, the background so that your app doesn't risk being terminated by the system to free up resources. The suspending event handler is the best place to save your app state. On Football. However, if you are doing work in the background (for example, audio playback, using an extended execution session or in-proc background task), it is also a good practice to save your data asynchronously from your EnteredBackground event handler. This is because it is possible for your app to expository essay conclusion, be terminated while it is at a lower priority in the background. And because the app will not have gone through the short essay suspended state in that case, your data will be lost.

Saving your data in your EnteredBackground event handler, before background activity begins, ensures a good user experience when the user brings your app back to the foreground. You can use the application data APIs to expository essay conclusion, save data and settings. Funds. For more info, see Store and retrieve settings and other app data. After you save your data, if you are over your memory usage limit, then you can release your data from memory since you can reload it later. That will free memory that can be used by the assets needed for background activity. Be aware that if your app has background activity in progress that it can move from the running in the background state to the running in the foreground state without ever reaching the essay suspended state. If you make an asynchronous call within your handler, control returns immediately from funds that asynchronous call. That means that execution can then return from your event handler and your app will move to the next state even though the asynchronous call hasn't completed yet. Use the GetDeferral method on the EnteredBackgroundEventArgs object that is passed to your event handler to expository essay conclusion, delay suspension until after you call the Complete method on the returned Windows.Foundation.Deferral object. A deferral doesn't increase the amount you have to run your code before your app is ear piercing, terminated. It only delays termination until either the deferral's Complete method is called, or the expository conclusion deadline passes- whichever comes first . If you need more time to save your state, investigate ways to save your state in stages before your app enters the background state so that there is less to save in your EnteredBackground event handler.

Or you may request an ExtendedExecutionSession to get more time. There is no guarantee that the request will be granted, however, so it is best to find ways to minimize the amount of time you need to save your state. When the user minimizes an opinion reading app Windows waits a few seconds to see whether the user will switch back to it. If they do not switch back within this time window, and no extended execution, background task, or activity sponsored execution is expository essay, active, Windows suspends the app. An app is also suspended when the lock screen appears as long as no extended execution session, etc. is active in that app. When an app is suspended, it invokes the one word essays spm Application.Suspending event. Essay Conclusion. Visual Studio’s UWP project templates provide a handler for this event called OnSuspending in App.xaml.cs . Report Mutual Funds. Prior to Windows 10, version 1607, you would put the code to save your state here. Now the recommendation is to save your state when you enter the background state, as described above. You should release exclusive resources and file handles so that other apps can access them while your app is suspended. Examples of exclusive resources include cameras, I/O devices, external devices, and network resources. Explicitly releasing exclusive resources and essay, file handles helps to ensure that other apps can access them while your app is suspended.

When the app is resumed, it should reacquire its exclusive resources and report, file handles. In order to ensure a fast and responsive device, there is expository conclusion, a limit for short the amount of expository conclusion, time you have to run your code in your suspending event handler. One Word Essays. It is different for conclusion each device, and opinion reading habits, you can find out what it is using a property of the SuspendingOperation object called the essay conclusion deadline. As with the EnteredBackground event handler, if you make an asynchronous call from ear piercing essay your handler, control returns immediately from that asynchronous call. That means that execution can then return from your event handler and your app will move to the suspend state even though the asynchronous call hasn't completed yet. Use the expository essay conclusion GetDeferral method on the SuspendingOperation object (available via the event args) to delay entering the suspended state until after you call the ear piercing essay Complete method on the returned SuspendingDeferral object. If you need more time, you may request an ExtendedExecutionSession. Expository Essay. There is no guarantee that the request will be granted, however, so it is best to find ways to minimize the amount of time you need in your Suspended event handler. The system attempts to keep your app and its data in effect essay topics, memory while it's suspended.

However, if the system does not have the resources to keep your app in memory, it will terminate your app. Expository Conclusion. Apps don't receive a notification that they are being terminated, so the only opportunity you have to ear piercing essay, save your app's data is in your OnSuspension event handler, or asynchronously from your EnteredBackground handler. When your app determines that it has been activated after being terminated, it should load the application data that it saved so that the app is in the same state it was in before it was terminated. Expository. When the user switches back to a suspended app that has been terminated, the app should restore its application data in its OnLaunched method. The system doesn't notify an app when it is terminated, so your app must save its application data and release exclusive resources and file handles before it is suspended, and ear piercing, restore them when the app is essay, activated after termination. A note about debugging using Visual Studio: Visual Studio prevents Windows from short essay in india suspending an essay conclusion app that is attached to the debugger. Essay Reading Habits. This is to allow the user to view the Visual Studio debug UI while the app is running. When you're debugging an essay app, you can send it a suspend event using Visual Studio. Mutual Funds. Make sure the Debug Location toolbar is expository essay conclusion, being shown, then click the Suspend icon.

A suspended app is resumed when the nineteen introduction user switches to it or when it is the active app when the device comes out of a low power state. When an app is resumed from the Suspended state, it enters the Running in background state and the system restores the app where it left off so that it appears to the user as if it has been running all along. No app data stored in memory is lost. Therefore, most apps don't need to restore state when they are resumed though they should reacquire any file or device handles that they released when they were suspended, and restore any state that was explicitly released when the app was suspended. You app may be suspended for hours or days. Expository Essay Conclusion. If your app has content or network connections that may have gone stale, these should be refreshed when the app resumes. If an app registered an event handler for the Application.Resuming event, it is called when the short app is resumed from the Suspended state.

You can refresh your app content and data in this event handler. If a suspended app is activated to participate in an app contract or extension, it receives the Resuming event first, then the Activated event. If the suspended app was terminated, there is no Resuming event and conclusion, instead OnLaunched() is called with an ApplicationExecutionState of Terminated . Because you saved your state when the app was suspended, you can restore that state during OnLaunched() so that your app appears to the user as it was when they switched away from it. While an app is suspended, it does not receive any network events that it registered to receive. These network events are not queued--they are simply missed. Therefore, your app should test the network status when it is resumed. Note Because the ear piercing essay Resuming event is not raised from the UI thread, a dispatcher must be used if the code in your resume handler communicates with your UI. See Update the UI thread from a background thread for a code example of how to do this. Generally, users don't need to close apps, they can let Windows manage them. However, users can choose to close an app using the close gesture or by pressing Alt+F4 or by expository conclusion, using the ear piercing essay task switcher on Windows Phone. There is not an event to indicate that the user closed the app.

When an app is closed by the user, it is first suspended to give you an opportunity to save its state. Expository Essay Conclusion. In Windows 8.1 and later, after an app has been closed by the user, the app is removed from the screen and switch list but not explicitly terminated. Closed-by-user behavior: If your app needs to do something different when it is closed by the user than when it is closed by Windows, you can use the four activation event handler to determine whether the app was terminated by the user or by Windows. See the expository descriptions of ClosedByUser and Terminated states in the reference for the ApplicationExecutionState enumeration. We recommend that apps not close themselves programmatically unless absolutely necessary. For example, if an app detects a memory leak, it can close itself to ensure the security of the user's personal data. The system crash experience is designed to get users back to what they were doing as quickly as possible. You shouldn't provide a warning dialog or other notification because that will delay the user. If your app crashes, stops responding, or generates an exception, a problem report is sent to Microsoft per the user's feedback and eighty essay, diagnostics settings. Expository Essay. Microsoft provides a subset of the error data in the problem report to you so that you can use it to improve your app. You'll be able to see this data in your app's Quality page in your Dashboard.

When the user activates an effect app after it crashes, its activation event handler receives an expository ApplicationExecutionState value of NotRunning , and should display its initial UI and data. After a crash, don't routinely use the app data you would have used for Resuming with Suspended because that data could be corrupt; see Guidelines for app suspend and resume. When a user deletes your app, the app is removed, along with all its local data. Removing an app doesn't affect the user's data that was stored in common locations such as the Documents or Pictures libraries. App lifecycle and the Visual Studio project templates.

The basic code that is relevant to the app lifecycle is provided in the Visual Studio project templates. The basic app handles launch activation, provides a place for you to restore your app data, and one word spm, displays the primary UI even before you've added any of your own code. For more info, see C#, VB, and C++ project templates for expository essay conclusion apps.

A Case for Reading - Examining Challenged and Banned Books. Any work is potentially open to expository essay, attack by someone, somewhere, sometime, for some reason. This lesson introduces students to censorship and how challenges to books occur. They are then invited to read challenged or banned books from the American Library Association's list of the most frequently challenged books. Students decide for themselves what should be done with these books at their school by writing a persuasive essay explaining their perspectives.

Students share their pieces with the rest of the class, and as an extension activity, can share their essays with teachers, librarians, and others in their school. Eighty Four Essay Introduction? T-Chart Printout : This printable sheet allows students to keep notes on essay conclusion, parts of books that they believe might be challenged, as well as supporting reasons. There are times that the books that are part of our curriculum are found to be questionable or offensive by other groups. Essay? Should teachers stop using those texts? Should the books be banned from schools? No! Censorship leaves students with an inadequate and expository essay, distorted picture of the and causes topics, ideals, values, and problems of their culture. Partly because of censorship or the fear of censorship, many writers are ignored or inadequately represented in the public schools, and many are represented in anthologies not by their best work but by expository essay, their ‘safest' or ‘least offensive' work, as stated in the NCTE Guideline. Among these texts are fiction and nonfiction, classic and contemporary works. Students read a wide range of literature from conclusion, many periods in many genres to build an understanding of the dissertation, many dimensions #40;e.g., philosophical, ethical, aesthetic#41; of human experience. essay on essay conclusion reflexivity Reflexivity as said by Timmins is “Critical reflexiveness informs critical action and ear piercing essay analysis. and contributes to expository essay conclusion, the overall apprehension of a situation” ( Timmins. 2006. p. 53 ) . There are many events and short on football experiences that I would wish to believe about reflexively but I think the 1 that sticks out in my head the essay conclusion, most was my relationship with Joe* . and how bad it ended. Although the relationship did terminal. there were a batch of things that I learned from it. I guess I truly should hold known from the start that things were non traveling to travel swimmingly. The lone ground I had this feeling is because I frequently feel like I have a 6th sense about cats and the state of affairss I seem to acquire myself in. The intent of this paper is to analyse this experience reflexively and use constructs learned this semester to it. Essays Spm? Written Analysis: Reflexivity of an Experience. It all started on a confab line that was provided by expository essay MSN in 2003.

I had merely moved to nineteen four essay introduction, BC non excessively long before the chatting started. and expository essay conclusion was experiencing truly lonely. particularly populating on Salt Spring. Since I did non turn up at that place I did non hold a friend base and had to trust on the cyberspace for four introduction amusement for the clip being. So I started speaking to some random people and one of them was Joe. a 21 twelvemonth old 6’4 ruddy caput cat. ne’er thought I would wish a ruddy headed cat but I did. He was so charming and truly nice. and shortly the speaking on the computing machine turned into conclusion, speaking on the phone. The lone job was that he lived in dissertation report mutual funds, Delta. This would intend that one of us would hold to transpose if we were to expository conclusion, get down a relationship. and since he did non hold a driver’s license that person would be me. After a few months of transposing we decided that it would be for the best if I moved to Vancouver and live at that place with him. My move was to go on at the terminal of February. as I had to give notice at my current employer and happen a new one in Delta. The first mark that there would be problem in our relationship was a twosome of weekends before I moved to eighty four essay introduction, Delta. Essay Conclusion? It was Valentine’s Day and we were acquiring ready to travel out for dinner when the phone rang.

It happened to one word essays, be his “friend” who was holding problem in her relationship. and essay she was disquieted that he could non remain and speak to her. I got truly upset that he was speaking to another miss on Valentine’s Day. non because I was covetous. but because it was our vacation and we ended up being late for our reserves at the eating house. All was forgiven largely because I do non look to hold a back bone when it comes to essay, relationships so I merely allow it skid. Expository Essay Conclusion? This decidedly ended up coming back to seize with teeth me large clip. because a five months down the short, route I happened to expository conclusion, read a conversation he had with the same “friend” and the conversation sounded nil like it would if he had a girlfriend. The “friend” was non even cognizant that a girlfriend existed at the clip. about and causes topics, a twelvemonth into expository essay, our relationship. I confronted him and besides sent her a message stating her that he has a girlfriend who would appreciate that they stopped speaking like they did. He did non deny anything alternatively he apologized and effect and causes essay acted like prince capturing for the following twosome of months. Conclusion? I feel that my biggest error happened at this clip for four even giving him another opportunity. particularly since my trust had been broken so severely. The sap in love that I was once more I gave him a opportunity and ended up acquiring burned for it. Three months after that incident my ma offered to take me back to expository essay, Yugoslavia for a visit to my grandparents whom I had non seen since 1995.

I was more than excited and thought that things were traveling good between Joe and me. Again I could non hold been more incorrect. From this relationship I learned that non merely am I a door mat for people to pass over and causes essay topics, off their soiled pess but besides person who can be lied to over and over once more because I would maintain giving opportunities. Since we were coming back on Wednesday I had decided to name Joe on the Friday earlier merely to see how things were and to allow him cognize what clip I would be coming back. When he picked up the phone I could state something was wholly long.

Siting in the phone booth at the station office. watching the metre go up every 2nd I felt as though my bosom and tummy may come out of my pharynx. Expository Essay? The ill feeling came over me when he said that he was out with his “friend” and she had come over to the house where we lived. At this point I was speechless. and he said to me “this is opinion reading, non working for me and I merely do non desire a girlfriend any longer. ” My first reaction was why he waited until now to state me this alternatively of merely stating me before I left for expository essay my trip. When I asked him his response was “I wanted you to hold a good holiday! ” At this point I had racked up a phone measure of dissertation report mutual, approximately 50 Canadian dollars. and conclusion had said “fine I will come back and one word essays travel out. ” I cried the whole manner back to expository essay conclusion, my grandmother’s house. non because I was said that it ended but because of how it was handled by him. I had to essay, name my foreman and state him that Thursday would be my last twenty-four hours at work. which I felt atrocious about because I truly loved working at that place.

There were a batch of feelings that I felt besides choler. I felt ashamed that I would hold to be traveling back into my parents topographic point after populating off from essay place. I felt that they would keep this over my caput for dissertation mutual a long clip. They have the wont of utilizing I told you so. whenever I did the expository conclusion, antonym of what they told me to make. That was the last thing I needed from them at this clip. I needed their support and short essay on football apprehension. In the terminal. the expository conclusion, terminal of this relationship meant a whole new get downing for my life. and essays had it non happened I would non be populating the life that I presently have. Expository Conclusion? A immense portion of essay habits, me felt betrayed. and another portion of expository essay, me learned that I should non swear people so easy. Effect And Causes Essay? or be speedy to give them 2nd opportunities. Besides I learned that sometimes it is better to be entirely so be in a toxic relationship.

Critical Scrutiny. As stated in expository essay, Doane #038; A ; Varcoe. Dissertation Mutual Funds? self-observation and expository essay paying attending to the ideas. emotions. and bodily responses one is holding at any minute. the opportunity to reflexively look at those responses and effect topics expression at how you would move or react is expository conclusion, created ( Doane #038; A ; Varcoe. 2005. p. 204 ) . This acquisition has helped me to critically look back on the experience and ear piercing essay it allowed me to better analyse the emotions I was experiencing at the clip. Because self-observation and self-awareness is non frequently viewed as something that can be wholly attained. Expository? it is of import to short essay on football, see it as changeless journey of essay, find ( Jack #038; A ; Smith. 2007. p. 50 ) . The lessons learned in this semester have allowed me to invariably turn in essay, my journey to detect myself through self-observation. The three chief constructs that resonate in this journey are values and expository essay beliefs. One Word Essays Spm? emotional responses. and bodily esthesiss that are being experiences because of events or experiences. Not merely can these points be applied to my nursing pattern but besides to the experience which I described antecedently. The beliefs and expository essay conclusion values that I gained a stronger appreciation of because of my acquisition in Nursing 160. is to be true who you are and to travel with your initial inherent aptitude when it comes to people. Since this experiences occurred I have tried to make my best and non to allow my bosom lead the manner. but alternatively to listen to the voice deep inside me that said that possibly this was non the greatest thought. and that I would acquire burned if I continued on the way.

My beliefs besides tell me that I should non allow this experience ruin all the other fantastic times that I had with Joe. Although he did ache me really much. I believe in Karma and it all came back around to essay on football, him. Essay Conclusion? My values after I am no longer in a relationship with person. biased in ear piercing essay, a manner because I am so blinded by conclusion choler. I need to take clip for myself and for short my mental health in expository essay, order to be able to be okay with speaking to that individual once more. My emotional responses have besides been enhanced. and looking back now. the responses that I had may hold all been legitimate but they were non decently channelled.

There was a clip that after the experience I had felt commiseration on myself and that I would ne’er be good plenty for anyone to one word, handle me decently. Essay? I think that this response was jaded by the fact that I was so wounded. From the cognition I have gained. I now see that no affair how severely you are treated I am deserving holding the best relationship possible. So my new response to the result of this experience would be that I am happy that I do non hold to be in a state of four, affairs where I am made to experience bad about myself and bad about caring for expository others more than they may care for me.

As mentioned before the feeling of my bosom being in on football, my pharynx was a manner that my organic structure felt when the essay, experience was at the flood tide. I feel that this may be the lone response that would non alter based on the cognition gained about self-observation. The ground being. in my sentiment. is that everyone needs a manner that they deal with sad or horrifying or heartbreaking intelligence. Essay On Football In India? I feel that whenever something bad happens to expository essay conclusion, me I have a reaction where I lose my appetency. and all I would desire to make is kip. No affair what experience I have had since so or in the last few yearss even this is how I would respond. so I do non needfully think that I would make things otherwise. Conscious engagement in the nowadays has allowed me to look deeper into the experience that I have had and has besides taught me non to do the same errors once more. I think that if this state of affairs were to go on once more I would be a batch more self-aware and besides I would be a batch more unfastened to inquire inquiries of my spouse and non merely let them to brush things under the carpet as if everything was O.K. . There are three constructs that tie together to organize the umbrella that is the witting engagement of the events which occur in people’s lives. Those consist of self-knowing. heedfulness. and report intentionality. Although heedfulness is an ancient Buddhist pattern it does non merely use to that civilization or faith.

It merely means we have to analyze who we are. with inquiring what is our position of the universe and where and how we fit into it. Conclusion? while at the same clip we appreciate the fact that we are alive and good ( Kabat-Zinn. J. . Funds? 1994 ) . At this clip being aware of essay conclusion, my past experience to me means that there is funds, a ground that things worked out the manner they did. and even though there are things I would make otherwise this clip about. does non intend that it will wipe out what has already happened. I think that this accomplishment will come in ready to hand when covering with certain clients in the infirmaries every bit good. The manner I think this would use is that I need to essay conclusion, larn how non to brood on past experiences when faced with new challenges. These challenges could besides show themselves in report, the ways of essay conclusion, self-knowing. In my sentiment the significance of self-knowing has a batch to make with being in the minute now and non seeking to look excessively far into the hereafter or excessively far into short essay on football, the yesteryear. Looking at myself today I can state that I have grown up since the experience. but at the same clip I feel that the experience has made me the individual who I am today. You have to be able to swear yourself whenever you are faced with a tough determination or come across an experience that may alter you. Trust in expository essay, the fact that I will do the right determination. and even if I do non the lone individual that it is ear piercing, traveling to essay conclusion, impact is me. The construct of nineteen eighty four, intentionality seems sort of foreign to me and conclusion I truly do non cognize if I understand it wholly.

The manner I would hold felt about the experience now that I am in the present I do non believe would alter from what I was experiencing at the clip. What I was feeling was there was jobs but I feel that I did non desire to believe that things could stop so I avoided the issue. Ear Piercing Essay? Had I non avoided the issue would things hold worked out otherwise? It makes me experience really powerless when it comes to the control factor of the state of affairs. I was overseas so there was nil that I could make to protract the inevitable. The things that I do know are that I felt like a sap and I felt that I had been taken advantage of for a twelvemonth of my life.

As stated in Doane and Varcoe. “reflexive procedure and essay conclusion the information it affords has served as an essays spm of import compass alarming me to when I need to halt and reflect” ( Doane #038; A ; Varcoe. Conclusion? 2005. p164 ) . One Word Essays? Decision. In decision this paper discussed a personal experience which I reflexively analyzed based on the cognition that I gained in my Nursing 160 class. I feel that it has given me great insight into the manner I dealt with the state of affairs and besides the things I would make otherwise or the same should the state of essay, affairs re-occur. Spm? I besides believe that these covered subjects will be important to my nursing pattern and it will merely move as great leaping platform in my ability to cover with client’s demands and their ain tests and trials.
